Abstract

This article discusses the nutraceutical potential of discarded Zea mays L. stigmas in pamonharias in Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil. Corn stigmas, which are residues from corn processing, can be considered nutraceuticals due to their health benefits. The study evaluated the quality of collected stigmas, including ash content, particle size, flavonoids, total phenols, and vitamin C. The results showed that discarded corn stigmas are a promising source of bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and phenols, and also contain vitamin C. These results can contribute to the circular economy and environmental sustainability of the corn production chain. [Extracted from the article]
