LSU researchers in central Louisiana are using precision breeding techniques to develop sugarcane varieties that can withstand colder temperatures, allowing sugarcane to be grown in areas traditionally limited to the south. In St. James Parish, DG Fuels is collaborating with Johnson Matthey and BP to construct a $4 billion clean energy complex that will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from sugarcane.
