Abstract
- We seek to understand health conditions and experiences of xenophobia among refugee Venezuelan immigrants in digital journalistic reporting in Brazil from June to September 2018. We evaluated the description of perceptions of xenophobia and health services access, as well as attributions of responsibility to Venezuelans for the return of measles to Brazil. Through a qualitative and bibliographic investigation, we interpret selected narratives in the media vehicles: O Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo, and G1. The intersection of narratives with theoretical verification and opinions of readers indicated xenophobic practices that impact on the quality of life of these people, as well as social diffusion of Venezuelan migration as a problem that affected well-being of these individuals. We conclude that xenophobia interfered in the healthcare of immigrants in Brazil and journalism reinforced this condition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
