Abstract

The article discusses the importance of a healthy and well-functioning pelvic floor in preventing pelvic floor disorders, such as urinary incontinence, anal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor pain, and sexual dysfunction. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery are identified as the main risk factors for these disorders. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) during pregnancy is suggested as a potential preventive measure, with studies showing a significant reduction in the risk of urinary incontinence and perineal tears for women who undergo PFMT. The article also highlights the need for further research on the prevention of anal incontinence and the role of pelvic floor ultrasound in preventing birth trauma. [Extracted from the article]
