Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the suitability of the Turkish Dictionary for Schools prepared by the TDK for the target audience in terms of form and content features. Findings were collected through document review, one of the qualitative research data collection techniques. Form and content characteristics were determined by scanning the literature, and the findings were subjected to descriptive analysis. The aspects that should be examined in terms of the format features of the dictionary were determined as weight, size, spine, cover, combination method, paper, font type and size, based on the criteria in the literature review. The content features of the dictionary were determined from the words in the vocabulary activities of the Turkish textbooks in use and the words in the target word lists of the 5th-8th grade levels, based on whether the object of study corresponds to these words. As a result of the research, it was determined that the formal standards of the dictionary were not only suitable in terms of font size, but also other criteria. In terms of content features, the dictionary was able to cover the words in the target word lists at a rate of 87%-96% according to grade levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
