Abstract

From a documentary historical perspective, the commercial expansion of telecommunications systems from first-world countries that have maintained a dominant presence in Mexico for 100 years is analyzed. The activated FM receiver in cell phones, which Apple has decided not to activate, serves as an example of the need to regulate the power of multinational corporations, which diminishes visibility in public communication and social media. Neither the public pressure from authorities, industry, and civil society in Mexico, Canada, nor the United States has succeeded in dissuading the iPhone from allowing such signals on its devices, thereby favoring the sales of headphones, music services, and mobile broadband data payments. Contributions from direct contact with media representatives and regulatory bodies are included. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
