Abstract
- The article focuses on debunking the narrative of China's economic rise being fueled primarily by intellectual property theft. It highlighting the exaggeration of IP theft figures; misrepresentation of what IP is being stolen (consumer goods like sneakers and handbags); flawed assumptions about the impact of theft on technological innovation; mischaracterization of China's open-source intelligence efforts as espionage; and the misconceptions around joint venture IP "theft" by Chinese companies.
