If You Will Learn: The Pedagogy of Octavia's Parable.

A literary criticism of the speculative science fiction novel "Parable of the Sower" by Octavia E. Butler is presented. Topics discussed include the portrayal of the survival of a Black teenager, Butler's re-interpretation of the parable of the sower in the Bible by depicting the Black protagonist as the sower leading the belief system for apocalyptic times called Earthseed, and how Butler illustrated learning as an unpredictable, immersive process that people should submit to.
