Abstract

The temporal region (Regio temporalis) defined in anatomy is the area of the head that is assigned to the scales of the temporal bone (Pars squamosa ossis temporalis). The sensory innervation of the temporal region is provided by the auriculotemporal nerve and the zygomatic nerve (ramus zygomaticotemporalis). The temporal muscle is innervated by the nervi temporales profundi (of the mandibular nerve). The superficial temporal areas are supplied with blood by the superficial temporal artery, a branch of the external carotid artery. The deep structures are supplied by the deep temporal arteries, which originate from the maxillary artery. In part 8 of our anatomy series, we will look at the exact structure of this sensitive region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
