Abstract

During the past two decades, scientists and engineers have dedicated a great deal of time and effort to studying the causes and effects of hazardous material contamination and developing methods to mitigate these issues. Several methods, including precipitation, evaporation, and ion exchange, have been devised for the elimination of these substances. There are, however, a few problems with employing such methods. Massive quantities of wastewater containing a wide range of hazardous metals are produced as a result of human activity. Heavy metals in wastewater can be removed by microalgae. The ability of the green algal species Scenedesmus. to detoxify toxic metals was investigated. The accumulation, adsorption, or metabolism of hazardous chemicals by microalgae has been shown to drastically lower concentrations. Based on the findings of this study, it appears that bioremediation has the potential to play a significant role in the sustainable, eco-friendly, and financially rewarding process of eliminating heavy metals from a site. Also, the green alga Scenedesmus was found to be capable of chelating metals. Based on our findings, this species may have a future in technological solutions for treating wastewater.
