Abstract

Abstract-Different fig and olive tree parts have emerged as good sources of traditional medicine for the treatment of various ailments. So, this study was designed to evaluate the anticancer activity of fig and olive leaf extracts and their synergistic effect. The aqueous extraction of fig and olive leaves gave yields of 20.65% and 23.1%, respectively. These extracts and their combination exhibited strong toxic effects on MCF-7 breast cancer cells after 48 hours of exposure. MTT assay results indicated that fig extract, olive extract, and their combination had inhibitory percentages ranging from 31.03% to 44.13% at the highest concentration (100 µg/ml) of them. However, minimal inhibitory effects were observed on the normal REF cell line, reaching 11.38% at the highest concentration. The results indicate that exploring the potential of combining fig and olive could offer an encouraging avenue for further investigation in the field of cancer therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
