Comparison of HSS and M35 tool performance in novel CNC drilling operation of Aa5182 material for material removal rate and roundness error.

Abstract

This entire experiment evaluates and contrasts the material removal rate (MRR) and the roundness error of the drilled hole produced by two distinct drill bits—HSS and M35—operating in a CNC vertical machining centre at a constant speed of 2200 revolutions per minute and a feed rate of 180 millimetres per minute. Both the Materials and the Methods: The novel aluminium alloy AA5182, which contains 4.5 percent magnesium and is used as the base work material throughout the entirety of the drilling operation, was the material of choice. The CNC drilling operation makes use of drill bits that are HSS and M35 twist drill tools. These drill bits have a diameter of 10 millimetres and a drill bit nose angle of 118 degrees. In this study, different types of drill bits are evaluated for use in drilling operations with a depth of 10 millimetres at a constant cutting speed of 2200 revolutions per minute and a cutting feed rate of 180 millimetres per minute. These parameters are input variables that are programmed into a CNC vertical machining centre. In order to calculate the 95 percent confidence interval, 20 samples of the novel aluminium alloy AA5182 workpiece are taken for each drill bit. These samples are used to compare the material removal rate and the roundness error. When the material removal rate that was measured was compared between HSS and M35 drill tools, the results showed that the mean value of each tool's 20 samples was 233.056 and 240.183 respectively. The roundness error of the two drill bits, on the other hand, is 0.009 and 0.007 respectively. The statistical analysis was carried out with a probability value of 0.05 (p0.05), and the significance value for the variance was found to be 0.039 for the material removal rate. The significance value for roundness error was found to be 0.004, and the difference between the two groups was found to be statistically significant. When the material removal rates of the M35 twist drill bit and the HSS drill tool were compared over the AA5182 workpiece within the limits of the input parameters and the machining conditions, the results showed that the M35 twist drill bit resulted in a higher material removal rate than the HSS drill tool. Additionally, the M35 drilled workpiece had less roundness error than the HSS drilled workpiece did at the same working parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
