Abstract

This article discusses the lack of program-specific lactation policies in US Internal Medicine (IM) residency programs. The study surveyed IM program directors and chief residents to assess the existence and content of lactation policies. The results showed that over half of the responding programs had institutional policies, but only 22.1% had dedicated program-specific policies. Many policies lacked specificity and failed to provide adequate support for lactating residents, such as protected time for lactation. The study highlights the need for further research and the development of comprehensive program-specific lactation policies to better support lactating IM residents. [Extracted from the article]
