Abstract

"Violence and Public Memory" is a collection of essays edited by Martin Blatt that explores the memorialization of violence and its impact on public memory. The essays cover a range of topics, including the destruction of communities in Israel-Palestine, commemorations of atrocities in Argentina's military dictatorship, and the contestation of memories of violence among victims themselves. The book also examines how the memory of the Holocaust and Britain's role in ending the slave trade have been shaped for political purposes. While the collection has some flaws, it offers valuable insights into the intersection of violence and public memory. [Extracted from the article]
