Abstract
- This article reconstructs the relationship between figuration, cognitive mapping, and energy in the work of Fredric Jameson to show how the macroeconomics of oil overdetermines the transition into and out of postmodernity. It then critically reflects on what this might mean in an era defined by economic stagnation, climate catastrophe, high energy prices, and decarbonization, arguing that the crisis of carbon and capital once again makes figuration an urgent political task.
