Abstract
- The book "Jesuit Art and Czech Lands, 1556¿1729: Missionizing through the Arts" edited by Kate¿ina Horní¿ková and Michal ¿ron¿k offers a comprehensive examination of how the Society of Jesus used art to strengthen the Catholic Church and convert Protestants in Bohemia and Moravia. The essays explore the historical contexts of these lands' religious and cultural landscapes, including the Hussite War, the re-Catholicization efforts, and the use of devotional print and painting series. The book also discusses the Jesuits' adoption of medieval Marian images and the cultic staging of images of Jesuit saints. Overall, this book provides valuable insights into Jesuit art and culture in the Czech lands. [Extracted from the article]
