Abstract
- The article focuses on American bishop, Jermain Wesley Loguen's steadfast refusal to purchase his own freedom, even when given the opportunity to do so. It examines the circumstances surrounding these opportunities, such as the negotiation for the freedom of his mother, Jane, and the abolitionist efforts to raise funds for her release. It also explores broader debates within the abolitionist movement regarding the ethics of purchasing freedom and the moral implications of such actions.
