Abstract

The article reports on the call to U.S. president Joe Biden to push the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates. Topics discussed include the independence of the central bank with presidents having limited influence over it, the impact of high inflation, high mortgage rates and other elevated borrowing costs on Biden's re-election bid, and the view that it is time for Biden to emulate former president Donald Trump who intimidated Federal Reserve chairman Jerome H. Powell to cut rates.
