Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the levels of jealousy behaviors in dating and self-esteem in emergent adults of both genders. A non-probabilistic sample of 300 emerging adults in an heterosexual relationship (mean age = 20.2 years, 50 % men), who lived in the cities of Paraná and Viale, Argentina, was evaluated. The techniques used for data collection were the Multidimensional Jealous Inventory and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results obtained indicated a high level of jealous behavior and high levels of self-esteem. With respect to differences in the level of jealousy according to gender, it was women who scored higher than men in jealousy behaviors. It was also observed that people who spent less time in a dating relationship had greater jealousy behaviors. It was detected that intrigue was a significant predictor of Self-Esteem.
