Abstract
- Montéggia lesion is a rare but often serious lesion. The authors report their experience in the management of 2 cases of true Montéggia lesions over a period of 3 years in their department. Both patients were female and aged 4 and 9 years respectively. The circumstances were a fall from a height and a road traffic accident. X-rays were used in both cases to diagnose a Monteggia type I lesion according to the Bado classification. Conservative treatment was attempted in one case, but the procedure was unsuccessful. Treatment was surgical in both cases, combining reduction of the radius dislocation and pinning of the ulnar fracture with an axial pin. After a follow-up of 19 months and 9 months, both patients progressed well. Montéggia lesions in children usually have a good prognosis when treated early. Surgical treatment is indicated in cases of associated lesions or when orthopaedic treatment fails. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
