Abstract
- The article discusses the use of thyroid scintigraphy (TS) in patients with thyrotoxicosis before deciding on radioiodine therapy (RIT). The authors argue for the use of TS in all thyrotoxic patients, regardless of the cause, to detect potentially malignant cold nodules. They suggest that future revisions of treatment guidelines should consider the value of TS in patients without palpable nodules. However, the article raises some concerns about the use of TS, including its limited sensitivity for small lesions and the availability of more effective diagnostic methods such as ultrasound. The authors conclude that the use of TS to detect non-palpable nodules may be outdated in the era of integrated thyroid diagnostics. [Extracted from the article]
