Abstract
- The textile and clothing sector in Peru has experienced growth in recent years, although exports decreased in 2023. Better forecasts are expected for 2024. The industry faces problems of supply shortages of inputs and materials, which affects production. Despite this, Peru remains an important exporter of textiles, mainly to the United States, Chile, and Brazil. The main reasons that affected international sales were sustainability requirements in the United States, new import costs for Chinese products, and the political situation. Despite the difficulties, more companies are still encouraged to export their manufacturing. Imports of textile and clothing manufacturing in Peru have also decreased in 2023. The textile and clothing sector in Peru has experienced a decrease in the acquisition of textile products, especially in yarns and cotton fabrics. China remains the main supplier of textiles to Peru, although acquisitions from Brazil and Colombia are also significant. Despite this decrease, the textile and clothing sector remains an important part of the Peruvian economy and is expected to recover and continue to be a key supplier in the region.
