As we grow, we experience numerous changes in our lives that apply equally to men and women, young and old, rich and poor. At the same time, our leisure preferences are also evolving. We try new activities and some of them remain activities for a lifetime, others stay with us only for a certain time. Advances in leisure and recreation are notable for expanded recreational opportunities, particularly for various subgroups of society. The paper discusses sociocultural factors that influence personal values of free time and participation in contemporary society, such as age, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
