The tavern has always been a space for sociability, a place where wine and also some food are consumed, but where people also played games, discuss ideas and entice prostitutes. The documentation of the Feitos Findos, kept in the Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo (Lisbon), offers us a picture of the physical and verbal violence involving women who worked as tavern keeper in Lisbon at the end of the Ancien Regime.
