Abstract
- This document is a summary of a special issue of the journal Botanica Marina focused on the green seaweed Ulva. The collection of articles explores various aspects of Ulva, including its ecology, phylogeny, and practical applications in aquaculture. The articles cover topics such as taxonomy, cross-kingdom interactions with bacteria and fungi, and the cultivation of Ulva for sustainable alternatives to essential fatty acids. The special issue aims to advance our understanding of Ulva and its potential in sustainable aquaculture and ecological contexts. The collection is dedicated to the late Prof. Dr. Klaus Lüning, a renowned marine botanist who made significant contributions to the study of Ulva. The special issue is also supported by the EU-funded COST Action SeaWheat, which aims to integrate Ulva into various industries and daily life. [Extracted from the article]
