Abstract

Transparent bamboo (TB) stands as a promising biomass composite material, offering a range of merits including a straightforward preparation, high light transmittance, environmental sustainability, superior mechanical properties, and low thermal conductivity. These characteristics position TB for versatile application spanning energy-efficient building materials, decorative elements, and optoelectronic devices. This comprehensive review aims to elucidate the optical synthesis mechanism of TBs, delving into their functionalization improvement and exploring the potential applications across various domains. This paper serves to furnish readers with a profound understanding of the evolving landscape of TBs and their potential transformative impact. • This paper reviews the synthesis mechanism, preparation process, functional improvement of Transparent bamboo (TB). • The structure, properties and functional characteristics of TB are discussed. • The potential applications of TB in building materials, interior decoration and optoelectronic devices are summarized. • The prospects and challenges for the development of TB are discussed.
