Abstract

This article provides a personal account of the author's experience with childbirth and her decision to become a midwife. The author's interest in birth was sparked by a documentary on the medicalization of childbirth in the United States. She became involved in the home-birth community and apprenticed with a midwife, witnessing both the beauty and challenges of childbirth. The article explores the complexities of midwifery and the tensions between midwives and the medical system. The author ultimately decides to pursue motherhood herself through IVF after struggling with infertility. She reflects on the emotional toll of infertility and the moral and ethical implications of fertility treatments.
