Abstract

Rolls-Royce, a renowned engine company, is currently undergoing a reorganization effort led by its new CEO, Tufan Erginbilgiç. The company is selling its Rolls-Royce Electrical unit, formed through a collaboration with Siemens' eAircraft unit, in order to reduce debt and raise up to $1.9 billion over the next five years. While the buyer has not been disclosed, speculations suggest that European companies like Safran or Airbus could be potential candidates. Despite the sale, Rolls-Royce remains committed to investing in electrification and alternative propulsion systems. The article also highlights the company's involvement in various projects related to electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-based propulsion systems for aircraft, including successful tests of its motor demonstrator for urban air mobility and collaborations with other manufacturers for the development of hybrid-electric aircraft and eVTOL aircraft. Additionally, Rolls-Royce has made progress in the use of sustainable aviation fuels and is engaged in the Tempest stealth fighter program and a partnership with Vertical Aerospace for the VX4 eVTOL aircraft.
