Abstract

This article, published in the Russian Journal of Ecology, explores the influence of funnel material on the efficiency of nematode extraction using the Baermann method. The study found that the material of the funnel, whether glass or plastic, affects the extraction efficiency of nematodes. Plastic funnels resulted in a significantly higher number of extracted nematodes compared to glass funnels. Additionally, more nematodes were found to adhere to the walls of glass funnels compared to plastic funnels. The authors suggest that caution should be exercised when combining data from different studies if the funnel material is not specified, and recommend using funnels made of materials with hydrophobic properties to minimize losses.
