Abstract

The article discusses the decline of scientific quality due to the emphasis on quantity and ease of access in publishing. It highlights the shift towards Open Access (OA) publishing, where authors pay Article Processing Charges (APCs) to make their research freely available. While OA publications are believed to be cited more often, the high APCs can be exorbitant and lead to limited access for researchers who cannot afford to publish. The article also raises concerns about the potential lowering of scientific standards and the need for publishers to prioritize rigorous research. The African Journal of Herpetology is working with its publisher to address affordability issues and provide better options for authors. [Extracted from the article]
