Abstract
- Polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDCs) with varying amounts of vanadium were successfully sintered. The mechanical and thermal performance tests showed that the abrasion resistance, impact toughness, and thermal resistance increased by 69%, 202.9%, and 30 °C, respectively. The improved performance can be attributed to the solid solution formed by V 8 C 7 with tungsten carbide (WC) as a reinforcing phase, which eliminated interfacial defects, improved residual stress, and reduced the thermal expansion coefficient. In summary, we successfully developed a novel method for fabricating high-performance PDCs to enhance abrasion resistance and thermal stability, while substantially improving impact resistance, and which have remarkable application prospects.
