Abstract
- This article discusses the use of ultrasound with integrated ECG-electromagnetic guidance for the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). Traditionally, PICCs are inserted using fluoroscopic guidance, but this method has become burdensome due to increased demand and a shortage of interventional radiologists. The new technique involves puncturing the proposed vein in the right arm using an ultrasound system and using the Sherlock 3CG Tip Confirmation System (TCS) for navigation and confirmation of the catheter tip. This technique has several benefits, including reducing waiting time, radiation exposure, and cost. The article provides a detailed explanation of the technique and discusses its pros and cons.
