Abstract

Transnational crime is a complex issue that involves crimes crossing national borders, such as cybercrimes, scams, human exploitation, and smuggling. The Australian government has implemented strategies to combat this type of crime, including partnerships with the IT industry and international cooperation. Operation Ironside, a joint effort between the US FBI and the Australian Federal Police, successfully infiltrated criminal gangs using an encrypted messaging app, leading to the arrest of 224 offenders and the seizure of illegal weapons, drugs, and cash. The article also discusses extraterritorial jurisdiction, which allows the Australian government to prosecute its citizens or residents for crimes committed abroad. The Australian government is actively working to combat transnational crime through legal and educational responses and international cooperation. [Extracted from the article]
