Abstract

This article discusses the breeding behavior of Canyon treefrogs in relation to spring floods and warming nights in the southwestern United States. The study found that the timing of the frogs' breeding activity, such as calling and chorusing, occurs after spring flows recede during lower base flows. The article emphasizes the importance of natural flow regimes and highlights the potential negative impacts of human-mediated alterations, such as dams and diversions, on the breeding and population of stream-breeding anurans. The study suggests that maintaining natural flows or mimicking natural flow regimes can promote the persistence of these species. Future research should investigate additional bioclimatic variables and the effects of changing climate conditions on the breeding behavior of Canyon treefrogs. [Extracted from the article]
