Abstract

The market for biodegradable polymers has been rapidly growing in recent years due to the dire environmental hazard posed by the global expansion of polymer products. Polyhydroxybutyrate is a promising fully biodegradable polymer with properties similar to those of ordinary polymers. The article provides a comparative analysis of the stress-related (physical and mechanical) properties of a polyhydroxybutyrate-based composite with two types of fillers: hydrolysed lignin and wood flour. The goal of the research was to identify different strategies for lowering the cost of the polyhydroxybutyrate-based composite. The research showed that the introduction of fillers into the biopolymer increased the dynamic modulus of elasticity and tensile strength by 25-40% and the presence of filler in the composition reduced the impact strength of the composite material regardless of the type of filler.
