Abstract

Turkey has faced two major disasters in the 2020-2023 period. One of these disasters is the Covid-19 pandemic, while the other is the earthquakes that took place in the province of Kahramanmaraş and affected all of Turkey. Due to these disasters, all courses, including applied courses, were conducted in the form of distance education for a certain period of time. This situation is likely to have a negative impact on the practical skills of those who would become health personnel after university life. With the study, it is aimed to determine the work readiness levels of health personnel candidates who took practical courses in the form of distance education for a certain period of time. For this purpose, data collected from 250 health personnel candidates by questionnaire method and data obtained from interviews with 14 health personnel candidates are analysed. In this context, both quantitative and qualitative data are used in the study and the study has a mixed approach. As a result of the analyses made, it is determined that the work readiness level of the participants is approximately 7 points out of 10 points, but they felt inadequate in some subjects. It is concluded that some participants do not have self-confidence about professional practices, and they are worried about performing their professional practices fully. In addition, in line with the opinions of the participants, the positive and negative aspects of distance education are mentioned. In the study, taking into account the opinions of the participants, various recommendations are presented in order to increase the readiness level of the health personnel who would start to work.
