Abstract

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and its association with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is an unusual clinical condition, which is pretended to be explained by the severe diffuse alveoli damage; which causes dissection of the intraalveolar air through the bronchovascular sheaths and arrives to the mediastinum and even to the neck, thorax and abdomen soft tissue; with a clinical manifestation on subcutaneous emphysema. All of the above is related with a poor clinical outcome, this is why the radiologist needs to know the imaging features of this condition; and to be aware of the clinician of such findings.
