Abstract

A recent consensus document titled "Modern Fundamentals of Diabetic Retinopathy Management in Optometry" has been released by a group of 14 clinicians. The document aims to simplify the management of diabetic retinopathy (DR) so that optometrists can provide better care for the growing population of patients with diabetes. The guidelines are based on five pillars, all of which are backed by evidence-based science. The group has also developed a survey to gather feedback from the optometric community and ensure that a diversity of views are considered. The goal is to eradicate avoidable blindness caused by DR.
