Abstract

This article provides an overview of general elections in Indonesia from 1955 to 2019. It emphasizes the significance of these elections in establishing a democratic government that represents the people. The study examines the electoral system used during legislative and presidential elections and emphasizes the importance of adhering to democratic principles. It also discusses key elections during the New Order period and the transition to a democratic political system in 1999. The article concludes that general elections in Indonesia have been successfully conducted with the aim of creating a government that is accountable to the people. It provides specific details about the 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 general elections, including the political parties involved, vote counts, and winners.
