Abstract

Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) are a diverse group of complex disorders with varying presentations and responses to treatment. While there is no clear primary data source to support the claim, it is commonly stated that there are over 200 distinct types of ILDs. However, using standard classification schemes, the number of unique ILD clinical diagnoses is far less than 200. The number grows when overlapping features or phenotypic descriptors are considered, but the number of ILDs commonly encountered by specialists does not exceed 200. As understanding of ILDs improves, treatment approaches will continue to evolve and become more patient-centric. [Extracted from the article]
