Abstract

This document provides a comprehensive overview of the capacity and distribution of intensive care unit (ICU) beds in China from 2007 to 2021. The study found that the number of ICU beds in China increased significantly during this period, but the proportion of ICU beds in relation to hospital beds remained low at 0.91% in 2021. Furthermore, the number of ICU beds per 100,000 population in China was still insufficient compared to OECD countries. The study also identified regional differences in ICU bed distribution, with some provinces having higher ICU bed availability than others. The authors recommend increasing China's ICU capacity and improving the equitable distribution of ICU beds between regions to meet future demands. [Extracted from the article]
