This paper introduced the main influencing factors of sludge dewatering performance and sludge conditioning technologies, and reviewed the research progress of biochar for sludge conditioning, including the characteristics of biochar, modification methods, combined conditioning methods and the mechanisms of improving sludge dewaterability・ The prospect of biochar conditioning technology was presented, and it was suggested that in-depth studies about biochar modification and joint conditioning methods could be developed for providing references for the theoretical research and engineering applications of biochar in sludge conditioning.
