The ocean is a strategic place to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests. China’s maritime diplomacy in the new era has rich policy connotations: the overarching goal of building a maritime community with a shared future; the fundamental task of safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests; the basic principle of peace, development, and win-win cooperation; and the strong guarantee of CPC leadership. China’s maritime diplomacy in the new era is a response to the world’s profound changes unseen in a century, and serves the historic mission of building China into a maritime power and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It is an innovative development of China’s major-country diplomacy in the maritime field. The ideas, concepts, and policies of China’s maritime diplomacy in the new era provide the fundamental guidance for China’s foreign-related work in the maritime domain, and point out the direction for peaceful settlement of disputes, management of crises and risks, deepening dialogue and cooperation, and leading global governance.
