I have attempted, within this study, to analyse the compositional legacy and difficult fate of the not all that well-known Brno composer Václav Kaprál. The work will briefly examine the life circumstances which could have impacted the emergence of his later musical compositions. The musical pieces from the years 1939-946, within the framework of his compositional legacy, demonstrate a certain maturity and were made use of in order to present Kaprál's distinct compositional style and his possible inspirational sources. Using the example of the final composition by Václav Kaprál-Ballads for Violincello and Piano, the composer's stylistic unanchordness is analysed in detail. In light of the fact that the author also performs Kaprál's work in concert, several of her own interpretative observations will also be presented as part of the study [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
