Abstract

The article reports on the projected surge in electricity demand in the U.S. that endangers the nation's plans to fight climate change and clean energy transition. It cautions the impact of energy demand on the greenhouse gas mitigation efforts and 2035 decarbonization goal and emissions target of the government. It attributes the rising electricity use to remote work, video streaming, online shopping, expansion of data centers, rise of artificial intelligence and use of electric vehicles.
