Abstract

The article discusses the marginalization of philosopher Charles Peirce in the mainstream philosophy of science and the history of philosophy of science. The author reviews T.L. Short's book, "Charles Peirce and Modern Science," which aims to reintroduce Peirce as a philosopher of science. Short argues that Peirce wrote philosophy as a scientist, not a traditional philosopher, and emphasizes the centrality of science in Peirce's philosophy. The article also examines Peirce's conception of science as a restless spirit of inquiry and explores his views on system building and the pragmatic maxim. However, the author raises concerns about Short's defense of science and its implications for moral guidance. [Extracted from the article]
