Abstract
- This article, published in the Journal of Museum Education, explores the concept of engaging critically with and learning from the past, particularly in the context of Holocaust education. It discusses the debates surrounding the singularity of the Holocaust and its relevance in today's society, as well as the tension between the specific horrors of the Holocaust and the universal lessons that can be learned from it. The article also addresses the challenges faced by educators in discussing the Holocaust and other forms of hatred and prejudice in a productive and inclusive manner. Overall, the article emphasizes the importance of open dialogue, questioning assumptions, and engaging with the public in difficult discussions about history and structures of hatred.
