Abstract

The number of vehicles in NAJAF City has recently increased dramatically because of a lack of public transportation, economic growth, and a quick increase in population. The majority of traffic loads increasing were concentrated on traffic intersections, which already have a limited capacity, causing congestion on the roads. The level of saturation and delay increases as intersection volume increases, and as a result, the level of service (LOS) declines, causing instability and the formation of battalions as the intersection approaches. Traffic signals may even reduce congestion and lead to significant time, health, and safety savings. However, a few simple, inexpensive changes to a traffic signal network can significantly increase traffic flow. The current study's aims are to analyze, assess, and improve a four-legged signalized intersection in NAJAF City, known as the Al-Salam intersection. The current research operates and presents the best solution for boosting performance from the perspective of capacity. To achieve these objectives, the estimated distribution of traffic data in all directions required for traffic and geometrical analysis was collected using the SIDRA traffic program for the process's requirement. According to the findings of the study, the application of the assessment process and its intersection with the service standard is the outcome in LOSE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
