Abstract
- A powerful CNS-stimulating, amphetamine (contracted from alpha-methylphenethylamine) is utilized to treat narcolepsy, obesity, and (ADHD). It is frequently used as a recreational drug, increasing dopamine levels. Amphetamines have mood-lifting, alertness-boosting, and fatigue-relieving direct effects, and depressive activity, depressive mood, and lack of motivation are their withdrawal symptoms. sixty persons who participated in a case study, compared to sixty others, were used as a control group. All samples were taken from Al-Fayhaa Hospital in Basra Governorate, the study focused on the neurotransmitter factor represented by GABA, and DA was measured by ELISA technique (sunlongbiotech). In addition, kidney function represented by urea and creatinine was measured by spectrophotometry. The result shows a significant decrease in levels of GABA and no significant change in the rest of the parameters (DA, Urea, and Creatinine), We conclude from the current research that the effect of the dopamine hormone is immediate and slight at the same time in people who abuse amphetamine, in the other hand the effect of GABA is more sensitive to amphetamine, as its level decreases significantly among amphetamine abusers, while it does not find a noticeable effect on kidney function in amphetamine users, due to the ease of excretion of amphetamine breakdown products through the kidneys. We recommend caution when using such treatments, as they have a negative effect on the nervous system directly, and therefore have a negative social impact as well. We also recommend conducting future studies on the effect of amphetamine on the immune system of young people, as they are the most common age group for such drugs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
