Abstract
- This work presents the preparation and characterisation of the multifunctional Ni 2 NbSn Heusler alloy. The alloy was prepared using arc melting in the form of an ingot showing an L2 1 Heusler structure. The resistance measurements confirmed the superconductive character of the Ni 2 NbSn alloy with the critical temperature of T SC = 3.00 K and the upper critical magnetic field of μ 0 H SC = 0.69 T. Magnetic measurements confirmed strong diamagnetic contribution arising from the superconducting state and the additional ferromagnetic contribution observable below 13 K. The coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in Ni 2 NbSn Heusler alloy may give rise to new applications based on magnetic shielding or electromagnetic invisibility. • Production of Ni 2 NbSn Heusler alloy. • Superconductivity observed below the temperature of 3.00 K. • Ferromagnetic contribution observed below the Curie temperature T FM = 13 K. • Coexistence of both physical properties in the Heusler phase is presented.
